Makutano Junction has just been informed that it is one of the winners of the The Population Institute's 31st annual Global Media Awards for Excellence in Population Reporting in the category of Best Serial Drama.  Mediae will be collecting the award in San Francisco on December 1st, 2010.

 

Makutano Junction Wins 2010 One World Media Award

Makutano Junction won the New Media Award at the Annual One World Media Awards Ceremony on June 22nd, 2010,  in London. Mediae/Makutano Junction and getting Makutano into UK schools was shortlisted along with two other entries in this particular category. And we won it!

Makutano Junction the most popular TV drama series in Uganda

We know that Makutano Junction is very popular in Kenya, but we were not totally sure how it would go down in other part of English-speaking Africa.

A recent survey conducted by Steadman Research Services shows that it is the most popular tv drama series in Uganda, beating even local, long running and much loved shows.

Makutano Junction effective at making UK secondary schoolchildren better “global citizens”

A recent survey with school children in England shows that watching Makutano Junction in class has changed their perceptions of what life is like in Kenya.  Before watching programmes, they associated Kenya with poverty, drought, hunger and wild animals, after viewing they claim to see a brighter side to life there.  “We always thought everyone was hungry and poor, but now we see that life there has quite a lot of similarities to life here” said a Year 8 student in Durham.

Under Secretary of State sees Makutano Junction “in action” in Northumberland secondary school

Ivan Lewis, Under Secretary of State, DFID, recently visited Ponteland Secondary School in Northumerland and took part in a class with kids watching Makutano Junction.news_ivan_lewis

KnowZone attracting big audiences in Kenya…

Mediae’s show aimed at primary aged kids is proving to be a smash hit.  It’s been broadcast on Citizen TV at prime-time.  Both children and parents loved the show.  Mediae are soon to take it to other English-speaking African countries.
