Current Training / Consultancy Projects While much training is informal and on a day to day basis, outlined below are more formal consultancy and training inputs currently or recently conducted by Mediae.
Mediae have designed, piloted and now implement a module entitled "Principles of Communication Design for Development", as part of the Graduate Institute of International Development and Applied Economic's Masters Course in Communication for Sustainable Livelihoods. The module focuses on how to draw up a communication strategy and then looks at the production processes of creative radio, video, internet and print within the development context.
The role of this consultancy input, carried out by Mediae in the Autumn of 2004, has been to assess and recommend ways in which the media can be supported in both Southern and Northern Sudan, in order to promote peace and development in the country. A wide range of recommendations have been made, relating to the legal and regulatory media framework, training initiatives in both broadcasting and the press, support to infrastructural developments relating to the media and how best to communicate with the millions of Internally Displaced People who are beginning to return to their home areas. CDC Kenya’s Development and Implementation of a TB/HIV Communication Campaign The company has taken on a job with CDC Kenya to assist in developing a communications campaign (strategy, tv, radio, plus additional print component) in Kenya to address TB/HIV. Work began in November and is due to last for two years. It aims to encourage people to understand the link between HIV and TB, get them tested for both, treat TB which is curable and seek treatment for HIV with anti-retrovirals. The project will target families in Kenya living in high TB/HIV prevalent areas.
Mediae have completed their input into a pilot phase of a DFID-commissioned training initiative with Wolverhampton University¹s Centre for International Development and Training (CIDT). The initiative aims to integrate ICD into training given by DFID to their in-country staff. A modular, two day training course has been devised which looks at both Communication for Development theory, as well as some of the more practical tools, alongside a Practical Prompts guide to ICD and development. |
