Mediae's current video production and the topics covered is varied and diverse, as can be seen below.

Take a look at the new Video Gallery for snippets.

   Makutano Junction Picture Gallery

This is a highly popular locally produced drama series set on the outskirts of a large town in Kenya.  It features the loves and lives of certain characters who live in Makutano, as well as weaving into the storylines useful information that the audience has identified as being useful to them.  So, for example, we have information relating to mental health, prevention of TB/HIV and issues relating to gender, such as abortion and domestic violence.

DFID have funded the production of eight, thirteen episode series.  The project aims to show that such a communication initiative, with a supportive internet site (www.makutano.org) and SMS texting facilities, can really make an impact on rural and peri-urban people's lives.

The project also aims to build up local capacity in Kenya, to produce top quality, low cost educative drama for television;  UK mentors have been involved including script editors, directors and cameramen who have worked on popular UK drama series such as The Bill, Eastenders and Casualty.

Already the programme has attracted a viewership in Kenya alone of over 5 million.  Makutano Junction is currently being broadcast in Uganda and is due to show soon in both Zambia and Ghana.

Farm Africa - Mandeleo Agricultural Technology Fund

Last year Mediae were commissioned by the Maendeleo Agricultural Technology Fund to undertake development of a communication strategy for the MATF.  Chris Garforth (Reading University) and David Campbell held a workshop with scientists from ten MATF funded projects in Kenya and Uganda in order to help them develop their own communication strategies.  Mediae have also produced related material for radio, print and short videos on six of these projects.
